John Wash IV grew up in Long Beach, CA were he began drumming in high school, playing in every group he could participate in. He went to junior college in Long Beach, studying percussion. During summers, he played in the Knott’s Berry Farm Drum Bums for three years, and then began performing with an Urban Percussion Trio called The Procrastinators. Later, he went to CalArts where he earned his BFA in multi-focus percussion. While there, he was exposed to the some of the music of Africa, Brazil, and India. Nowadays, John performs in many groups in the Los Angeles area.
